Senior Electrical Designer

AFW Oil & Gas UK has an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Designer to join our Engineering Operations team in Glasgow. In this role, you will carry out Electrical Design for the execution of projects for Brownfield modification to Electrical Equipment within Onshore Oil & Gas Plants at Concept, FEED, EPC and PMC project levels for domestic and international clients. You will be assigned to a project Task Force to assist the Engineers for technical delivery of the project and carry out design including producing electrical drawings, schedules and other design deliverables. You are expected to be an experienced Designer with a high level of electrical design competence and a track record of producing electrical designs and layouts for modifications to LV & HV Switchgear, Transformers, Generators and Motor Drive Applications within an industrial process plant environment. As well as having sufficient technical capability, you will be expected to manage your own work load and assist the Engineers ensuring that all activities and deliverables are managed in accordance with the project schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve safety standards as defined in personal performance contract
  • Be responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
  • Prepare and approve drawing index for electrical drawings, indicating planned issue date for each deliverable
  • Design and mark - up drawings as appropriate (e.g. substation layouts, lighting, earthing etc) to a suitable level of detail
  • Comment on other discipline documents
  • Produce MTO and bulk material requisitions and prepare technical bid evaluations
  • Ensure design quality, technical content and technical accuracy of electrical drawings on assigned projects
  • Check and approve electrical drawings where he / she is authorised to sign
  • Comment on supplier documents where applicable
  • Attends plot plan and model reviews
  • Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer with contract works information
  • Prepare installation contract bill of materials on assigned projects
  • Advise the Principal Electrical Designer of any slippages / deviations and their causes and proposed corrective action.
  • Advise the Principal Electrical Designer of any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups
  • Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer with estimates, progress assessment and control of manpower on assigned projects
  • Input cable data in to electrical database and issue cable schedules and / or termination schedules
  • Keep informed of the latest developments in CAD software and other packages relevant to the electrical design discipline
  • Understand the fundamentals and be able to operate the basic functions of a CAD package
  • Assist when required in preparation of proposals.
  • Give guidance / training to Electrical Designers where required.
  • Responsible for self-checking design and approval of all electrical work on assigned projects

Qualifications & Experience

  • 3D Modelling
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering is desirable
  • Incorporated Engineer or working towards membership of the Institution of Engineering Technology
  • Experience of consultancy environment specific to process plants and electrical distribution at High, Medium and Low Voltages
  • Technically astute and conversant with the lasted advances in technology
  • Ability to lead and guide others to develop new skills or knowledge that will enhance their work. Ability to design, develop and/or deliver training programs
  • Ability to present information to individuals or groups; ability to deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to endure that they understand the information and the message. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others
  • Ability to identify problems, determines possible solution, and actively works to resolve issues
  • Possess good interpersonal skills with sound written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions and/or reaching conclusions. Ability to take action consistent with available facts, constraints and anticipated consequences
