Job Description

Our client is one of the world's most innovative technology companies, recognised globally as a game-changing innovator in the field of digital x-ray and radiation detection and imaging technology for the security screening, medical imaging and nuclear detection markets.

Specializing in developing end-user radiation detection products utilizing proprietary CZT semiconductor and industry standard scintillation detector technologies, our client's product portfolio is growing fast with significant new product /new market opportunities for these disruptive technologies.

Our client is looking for exceptionally talented, ambitious and motivated individuals seeking an international role within a young, highly progressive technology firm. They would like to hear from high-calibre individuals who can enhance its ability to develop an expanding range of scintillation detector products.

The candidate will be involved in the design and optimisation of the optical signal chain from detecting ionising radiation through Scintillator interaction, light propagation through materials, and the conversion of light output to electrical signal. The candidate will also have knowledge of, and be able to contribute to, development of the rest of the signal processing including electronic signal generation, interfacing and data processing.

  • Research and design of optical systems in scintillation detectors, both theoretical and practical.
  • Development and characterization of new scintillating materials.
  • Application and optimisation of photon-detector readout including PMT, SiPM, APD etc.
  • Selection and verification of the optimum signal conversion method.
  • Detector performance characterisation.

Essential:

  • Able to efficiently post process and present results.
  • Demonstrated understanding of optics, for detector design and materials characterisation.
  • Knowledge of fluorescent and / or scintillating material properties.
  • Modelling and simulation of optical and electronic processes.
  • Normal mode of interaction must be able to share thoughts at an early stage, engage in discussion and where necessary commit to new paths as a result.
  • Open, sharing, communicative.
  • Practical experience of construction, setup and operation of Scintillation/fluorescent detectors.
  • Practical experience running simulation software.

Desirable:

  • Able to present to customers and in a conference or sponsor environment.
  • Demonstrated experience of nuclear and or x-ray detection.
  • Demonstration of the delivery of the essential requirements in an industrial environment.
  • Experience of Geant4 or similar Monte Carlo techniques.
  • Experience of ZEMAX or similar ray tracing software.
  • Experience with radiation detector systems for gamma, neutron and x-ray characterisation.
  • Two years industrial experience.
  • Understanding of characterisation of active optical materials.
