The route to Wrexham

Requirement

Since February 2017, Primat has provided resourcing support to our client for commissioning works as part of a Journey Reduction Project in Wales. The project aimed to reduce the rail journey time between North and South Wales by re-doubling the line around Rossett on the outskirts of Wrexham.

The commissioning phase focused on completing four level crossings that were updated with a new object detection system.  These object detection systems are part of Network Rail’s investment to improve safety at level crossings.

Primat has been the main labour supplier to our cleint throughout project, which commenced in 2017, and was granted exclusivity to supply the bulk of the workforce for a week-long blockade.  This focused around the provision of safety critical contractors as well as on-track labour and logistical support, such as drivers and storemen.

Solution

Following in depth research, Primat’s resourcing and marketing teams collaborated closely in order to meet client requirements. The team developed an integrated attraction campaign plan, aimed at maximising awareness of the project and job opportunities to a new audience, as well as re-engaging with rail contractors who were supplied at an earlier phase in the project. The team developed the messaging for this campaign – opting for simple but effective recruitment messaging, while ensuring a seamless candidate application and a safety-first induction process.

Outcome

Through the execution of the marketing campaign and contractor re-engagement efforts, Primat achieved a 100% fill rate during the week-long blockade. Following excellent feedback from our client, Primat was requested to supply further rail contractors during the blockade.

In total, Primat supplied 68 contractors to the blockade, who completed a total of 401 shifts between them. Given the number of contractors supplied on site during the blockade, Primat also provided onsite support to our client, which included checking-in the workforce, issuing PPE and instructing and directing the team around site.
